In the past, brass was considered as a good material for making brass fixtures because of its attractive color, which was more than able to make brass fixtures very much in demand. However, after sometime, this bright metallic color got tarnished and started looking old. Now, brass is considered to be old fashioned and not so much in use as compared to the copper or the chrome plated fixtures. Brass is said to be a precious metal, which is more prone to corrosion. It is also somewhat expensive as compared to other metallic materials. For all these reasons, brass fittings are less in use than the other metals.

Brass fittings are often considered to be cheaper than the other metals as they are available in the form of small-sized pipes. Also, plastic fixtures are also considered to be cheaper than the brass ones. They are not able to match the standard and the durability of the brass fixtures. Some are even of the view that copper fittings might be of lower diameter than the brass fittings, thus making it even less effective. However, the truth is that copper is actually better and more effective, in terms of its performance. Hence, it does make sense to use this metal for the proper functioning of the water system.

Another reason why brass fittings are less in use is because they are easily susceptible to heat and compression. The surface tension gets affected when exposed to higher temperatures and therefore, they become less efficient. At the same time, the durability gets reduced when the pipe fittings are subjected to extreme temperatures. Therefore, one must be sure about the place from where he is going to get these fittings for his plumbing system so that he gets the best possible quality.
