Structural differences between BSPT and BSPP
BSPT (British Standard Pipe Tapered) is a British standard pipe thread, and its biggest feature is that the thread has a taper. That is, the diameter gradually decreases from the bottom of the joint to the tail of the thread, and the sealing is achieved by the tight bite between the threads during installation. This thread structure can achieve metal-to-metal self-sealing without relying on gaskets, and is suitable for pipeline systems with higher pressures, such as hydraulic systems, high-temperature steam pipelines, etc.
BSPP (British Standard Pipe Parallel) is a British standard parallel thread, which is a straight thread without taper. When connected, it needs to rely on external sealing components (such as O-rings, gaskets or cones) to achieve sealing. Therefore, BSPP threads are usually used in medium and low pressure systems, or in pipelines that require detachable maintenance. Its structure is more suitable for joint designs with mechanical seal seats, and it is more flexible to use.
Comparison with other thread types
In addition to BSPT/BSPP fittings, NPT (American taper pipe thread), JIC (Joint Industrial Committee connector), AN (US military standard connector) and metric threads are also common in the market. NPT and BSPT are both tapered threads, but their thread angles and pitches are different, so they are not interchangeable. NPT is widely used in North America, and sealing tape or thread sealant is often required for installation.
JIC and AN joints are designed with 37° cone seals, which form a seal by metal cones against metal cones. They are mainly used in high-pressure hydraulic systems, automobiles, and aviation industries. They do not rely on the sealing function of the thread itself, but the cone angle is specially designed in the structure to ensure no leakage.
In contrast, BSPT/BSPP fittings have strong versatility and compatibility in the field of pipeline connection due to mature standards, convenient installation, and reliable sealing performance.
Common application areas
1. Automobile fuel system: BSPT threads are widely used in low and medium pressure systems such as automobile fuel inlet and outlet pipes and coolant circuits due to their self-sealing characteristics, and they are installed quickly and reliably.
2. Air conditioning and cooling systems: BSPP joints have external seal support, which shows extremely high safety and convenience in air conditioning refrigerant pipelines that need to be frequently disassembled and maintained.
3. Low-pressure section of hydraulic system: BSPT connectors are often used in return pipes, vent pipes and other areas in hydraulic systems. They have high pressure resistance and excellent sealing performance.
4. Industrial equipment connection: such as compressed air equipment, liquid distribution systems, etc. BSPP has a flexible structure and can be adapted to various connectors, making it a standard option.
5. Agricultural irrigation and water treatment systems: In scenarios where pipes need to be frequently replaced or inspected, the repeatability of parallel threads makes BSPP the preferred choice.
Legines Industrial Machinery Inc. Advantages in the production of BSPT/BSPP connectors:
1. Complete processing and testing equipment
The company uses full-process CNC processing technology to ensure that each threaded connector has accurate dimensions, standardized tooth profiles, and strong sealing performance. At the same time, CNC equipment can achieve efficient processing of complex structures and ensure consistency in product quality. It has 45 fully automatic machine tools and 35 semi-automatic CNC machine tools, with strong mass production capabilities. The equipment has a high degree of automation and can achieve 24-hour continuous operation, effectively reducing labor costs and improving delivery capabilities. There are 3 sets of special testing equipment for testing thread accuracy, sealing performance and material stability. All products must pass strict inspection before leaving the factory to ensure no leakage, no defects and no errors.
2. Selection of high-quality materials
BSPT/BSPP fittings are mainly made of high-purity brass and stainless steel materials, which have good corrosion resistance and high temperature resistance, and are suitable for various complex industrial working conditions.
Brass has good corrosion resistance in the atmosphere, water vapor and a variety of neutral or weak acid and alkali environments. Especially in harsh environments such as humidity, heat, and salt spray, high-purity brass can form a stable oxide film to prevent further corrosion and extend the service life of the connector.
Brass material is soft but strong, with good machinability, very suitable for CNC precision machining, which can ensure the shape of BSPT/BSPP threads is complete, high precision, and not easy to break or deform.
